Field, Barron - Kangaroo

Interpretation eines englischsprachigen Gedichtes

In 1819 George Howe produced the book First Fruits of Australian Poetry by Supreme Court judge Barron Field. Barron Field came to Australia in 1817; while there had been writers before him, his work was the first to be produced in form of a book.

Rather a pamphlet than a book, it contained only two poems, “Botany Bay Flowers” and “The Kangaroo”, of which the latter is the more famous one and a good example of the early settler’s view of Australian nature.
