Dieses Dokument interpretiert die 6. Szene des II. Aktes von Shakespeares Drama “Romeo und Julia”.

Zugleich macht es beispielhaft deutlich, worauf es bei einer solchen Analyse eines Dramenausschnitts ankommt. Damit ist es besonders geeignet für das Training bestimmter Interpretationsmethoden zum Beispiel in der Klasse 9/10.

Der Text beschäftigt sich mit Bühnenstück “Pygmalion” des Iren George Bernard Shaw aus dem Jahre 1912. Eine Skizzierung der Bedeutung des Begriffes “Pygmalion” sowie eine knappe Zusammenfassung des Romaninhalts stellen eine kurze Einführung in die Thematik dar. Charakterisierungen der drei Hauptcharaktere Henry Higgins, Oberst Pickering und Eliza Doollittle und ihr Verhältnis zueinander bilden einen wichtigen Teil des Textes. Abschließend wird eine Analyse der Sprache und ihrer Entwicklung bei Eliza Doolittle vorgestellt. Diese Sprachanalyse geschieht auf der Grundlage des englischen Textes, ansonsten werden beide Formen berücksichtigt.

Wilde’s most popular play is seen and read with as much pleasure today as is was on its first appearance a hundred years ago. Anne Chislett (*1942) is a Canadian author and screenwriter. After graduating from the University of British Columbia, she worked as a teacher until 1980. Since then, Chislett has been a full-time author.

Her best-known works are The Tomorrow Box (1980) and Quiet in the Land (1996). The play Flippin’ In, which was first produced in 1996, won the Chalmer’s Canadian Play for Young Audiences Award.

Sam Shepard (*1943) is an American playwright and actor. After briefly studying agriculture he came into contact with the theatre and began writing plays. Besides being a writer, Shepard has also directed some screen plays.
The drama True West debuted in 1980 in San Francisco. It was first published in print in 1981. In 1984 the play was made into a movie.

A Raisin in the Sun belongs to the classic American plays. It deals with a black family in the 1950s trying to improve their living conditions. The ambiguity of hope and resignation is underlining the play.

Dreams are an important topic throughout the play. The characters try to fulfil their individual dreams although they have suffered a lot from disappointments in the past.

The text deals with the play “Pygmalion” of the Irishman Georg Bernard Shaw dated back to 1912. A brief introduction is given by deducing the meaning of the word “Pygmalion” and by giving a short summary of the plot. Characterizations of the three main characters and how they relate to each other constitute an important part of the text. As a conclusion acts a speech analysis of Eliza Doolittle and her linguistic development.

Michael Frayn is a British novelist, columnist, playwright and translator. He became famous for plays, such as Copenhagen, Noises off or Democracy, as well as his novels, Towards the End of the Morning, Headlong and Spies, which he was numerously awarded for. His literary work also entailed several movies.

Copenhagen, probably Frayn´s best known work, treats a conversation between two phyciscists during World War II. After the war, they are not sure anymore about what they said. The material provides an insight into the scientific and historical background of the play.
