Paul Benjamin Auster (*1947) is an American author and producer. Until 1970 Auster studied English and literature at the Columbia University. From 1971 until 1974 he lived in France, where he worked as a translator. Afterwards he accepted a teaching position at Columbia University, but continued to translate books from French into English.

Auster´s first novel, the detective story Squeeze Play, was published under his pseudonym “Paul Benjamin”. His novel Moon Palace was published in 1989.
